Autumn Fire Festivals

Adding to many firework festivals, there are many religional/traditional fire ceremonies from August to September around Tsukuba. In evening, they show mechanical fireworks, parade of lanterns and torches. Althogh it's summer and hot in daytime, the evening atomosphere is aparently changing from summer to autumn, and these festivals can be said as opening ceremonies for comming autumn.

Festival of Ina town (First sunday of August, author's guess)

Famous "tsunabi" firework is demonstrated also in this festival.

"Karakasa Man-do" fire feastival (15th of August)

Famous sparkler art demonstrated in Niihari villedge. They put on fire to a big parasol of 5 meters in hight and diameter with many sparklers.

"Man-do" religional fire festival of Ushiku Arcadia (15th of August)

Various events are shown around the world biggest buhda statue. Fireworks, lantern parade etc.. The statue is light-uped.

"Man-do" lantern festival of Ohmido temple (18th of August)

Localy known "Man-do" religional lantern ceremony.

"Tsunabi" fireworks in Ina town (Takaoka) (23rd of August)

One of two "Tsunabi" firework in Ina town. At the opening of the festival, we can see fire ceremony "Kurikomi". In the ceremony many people sprash fire flame to the shrine building in order to clean up any evilness from the shrine. After the exciting ceremony, marionettes with fireworks and sparklers are played.

"Tsunabi" fireworks in Ina town (Obari) (24th of August)

The other "Tsunabi" in Ina town. We can enjoy the marionette performance nearer.

"Kattate matsuri" torch parade (31st of August)

Fireworks and torch parade. The parade climbs up a small hill and the fire string can be viewd from under the hill.

"Man-do" lantern festival of Amaboki in Kukizaki town (9th of September)

Lanterns and fireworks.

"Tabanka" fire ceremony (12nd and 14th of September)

Performed in Daiho-Hachman-gu shrine in Shimotsuma city. Boys holding big torches run around in the shrine. Exciting festival.

"Tachibana" fire ceremony of Wahi shrine (13rd of September)

Small float runs through under fire sparklers. Washi shrine is located near the science city.

Firework festival of Hitokotonushi shrine (13rd of September)

"Tsunabi" is demonstrated. The style is similar to ones of Ina town. Many fireworks are also shown.

"Ryusui man-do" fire ceremony of Hakke in Tsukuba" (15th of September)

They show hundreds of traditional small rockets. The origin of the festival started in Edo era in order to pray avoiding deseas.

Firework festival of Tsukuba city (3rd Saturday of September, author's guess)

Not so small event. You'll enjoy it.

Tsuchiura all Japan firework contest (first Saturday of October)

One of the biggest firework festival in Japan. As the festival is an official contest of Japan firework association, top firework artists come and show their skills and tastes. The weather of this season is rather cool, so it's better to wear warm clothes.

Lantern festival of Kshima-jingu shrine (1st of September)

One of the most famous traditional events in Ibaraki prefecture. We can see exciting parade of bamboos with hundreds of lanterns. At last the bamboos are broken up and barned. A bit far from Tsukuba.
